Rainier Valley Church is a family of Jesus-loving, Bible-believing, gospel-centered, Spirit-filled, multi-cultural, mission-minded people. We are former orphans who, by grace, have been adopted as sons and daughters into the family of God through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. This invitation into the family of God through Jesus is open to everyone—including you!

We would love to meet you and welcome you this Sunday! We meet at the Union Gospel Mission in Rainier Valley to eat together, to learn the scriptures, and to encourage one another as we worship our great God and Savior! You will also experience joy-filled music, life-changing bible teaching, and family-like community.

No matter your spiritual background or lack thereof, we invite you to come hear about Jesus Christ’s perfect, sacrificial love for you and your family.

Please join us!

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
— Acts 2:42-47

Head Pastor: The Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the leader of Rainier Valley Church. This might seem obvious to insist but it’s essential.

Jesus Founds His Church (Heb 3:1)

Jesus Builds His Church (Matt 16:18)

Jesus Governs His Church (Eph 1:9-23, 5:23)

Jesus Guides His Church (1 Pet 5:4)

The Leadership of Rainier Valley Church strive to know Jesus, love Jesus, and follows Jesus at all times and in all ways.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

— Colossians 1:15-18

Pastor Steve Pratt

Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky where he studied biology, chemistry, and secondary education. While in college, Steve served in Campus Crusade for Christ and spent a summer partnering with Here’s Life Inner City on the southside of Chicago. While there, he felt the call to teach at the high school level and serve in an urban church, wherever that may be. After marrying and moving cross-country to Seattle in 2007, Steve began a year of service with AmeriCorps in the public schools until he found a teaching position at Cleveland STEM HS. This fall, Steve will be starting his 12th year at Cleveland, where he teaches physics, chemistry, and AP chemistry. Steve also has a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from the American College of Education.

The past few years as a church plant have grown a love and affection for God’s church in Steve, and God used this to call Steve to be an elder at Rainier Valley Church. He has a heart to see Kid’s Ministry done with excellence as well as for the church to cultivate disciples of Jesus.

Steve has been married to his lovely wife Kyrsten for 11 years and they have 2 daughters, Tahlia (5) and Seraphina (2). They live in south Beacon Hill, where they enjoy riding bikes around the neighborhood, DIY home projects, and the occasional donut from Top Pot.

Nate oversees the Worship Ministry at Rainier Valley Church, and serves on the Board of Directors.

Nate grew up in Salem, Oregon and has been a believer since he was a child. From his teenage years on, Nate had a growing sense that he would be a pastor… "someday". Since moving away from his hometown, Nate has lived in Kansas, Wisconsin, and like many of us, eventually crash-landed in Seattle. It was here in the Emerald City where he met and married his wonderful wife, Brit. Nate and Brit have two loud and lively kids, James and Grace. The Porter family has loving and serving the church in Rainier Valley since 2011.

In addition to being a pastor at RVC, Nate loves music, movies, and humor (in all of it’s forms). In his free time, Nate is the Chief Operating Officer at a Puget Sound wealth management firm.
