Making Sense of Church Week #5 (Ephesians 5:18-21) "Sing - Worship"

If you had to choose your top five favorite songs right now, (any genre, artist, style) what would they be and why?

What is an "Earworm" that you've had stuck in your head lately?

How would you answer the question, why do Christians sing? What is the connection between singing and Christian faith?

What are some Biblical examples of the importance of music and singing?

Read Ephesians 5:18-21.

God commands Christians through the Holy Spirit to not get drunk on wine but be filled with the Spirit. Why does God prohibit being drunk? How is drunkenness unwise, sinful, and even dangerous? How would you explain being filled by the Spirit and how is it different than being indwelt with the Spirit? Why is the Spirit so important to the Christian life? How do you obey this command to be filled with the Spirit? How do you experience the filling of the Spirit in your life?

We're called to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to one another. Why is it important that Christians sing together and sing to one another? During most of church history, faith, zeal, theology, and wisdom was communicated through song. How have songs helped to teach and shape you as a Christians?
What worship songs have had the biggest impact on you and why? What songs has God used to convict you, encourage you, comfort you, remind you of truth?
What sort of expectations do you have as you come into worship on a Sunday morning? How does our singing impact those around us (Suffering, struggling, uncertain)
How does singing help us to remember, meditate, and understand truth for a life time? How does music us help us to express praise in a deeper way than more than just mere words can?
How do you cultivate an attitude of gratitude and express thanksgiving to God for all his goodness to us?
Let's pick a worship song to sing together and after we're finished singing, let's talk some time to pray and praise God for his goodness.
