Happy December, church!
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who helped us get Christmas decorations up and do some long-overdue cleaning in our storage rooms behind the auditorium. We let go of a lot of stuff we no longer need, found some stuff we didn’t know we had and were able to streamline the space back there. No more tripping over boxes when we’re trying to set up in the morning! And, best of all, the auditorium looks beautiful.
Irene shared some information about next year’s mission trip to the Philippines. Sign up deadline is January 31, 2019. For more information, please reach out to Irene Yung (email@example.com).
Remember to invite your friends and family to our Christmas Eve service on Monday, December 24th at 6:00pm. Printed invitations are available at the Welcome Desk.
Printed copies of the family Advent devotional are available at the Welcome Desk. If you’d like to download a digital copy, please see here: https://d1nwfrzxhi18dp.cloudfront.net/uploads/resource_library/attachment/file/916/Lead_Pastors_-_2017_-_Advent_-_Guide_-_Digital.pdf
Advent of the King: The Gospel of Matthew - Week #1 (Matt 1:1-17)
What are some of your favorite things about the Christmas Season? What are you most looking forward to this Christmas? What is God teaching you this Christmas?
We're beginning our study of the Gospel of Matthew with the goal of working through the book as we build up to Easter of 2019. What is your history with the book of Matthew? Have you ever read it all before? What do you think of it? What stands out to you in the book? What sorts of questions do you have about book? What are some of your favorite parts of Matthew?
What do you know about your family tree? Who in your family do you most look like? Who in your family do you most act like? What family characteristics do you love and which ones do you want to avoid?
As you examine Jesus' family tree which looks from Abraham to David (1:1-6), David to Exile (1:7-11), and the exile to the birth of the Messiah (1:12-17). Which characters jump out to you in Jesus' genealogy and why? How does Jesus' family tree show the grace of God at work in Jesus' own family? What ways can God's grace help us to not think we are better than others? What ways does God's grace help us to be open about our own shortcomings? What ways can you, and do you need to, extend God's grace to others?
Any practical needs or ways we can serve one another this next week? How can we be praying for each other over the next week?
Thanks, and see you next Sunday!
