Week 6, Day 1

Living TODAY for a Future Tomorrow

By: Rebekah Tan

Habakkuk 2:14:  “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea

Lesson 1 – The Future

“The earth WILL BE …”

As humans, we tend to want to focus on us, on the now, rather than on our future. Not the future tomorrow, next week, next year or even the next decade, but rather the future that Jesus has secured for us in heaven, as is says in John 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” We are to focus on our heavenly home. Just as a runner knows the distance they must run, because they know where they will end, the finish line. We must know where we are to “finish our race with endurance” Hebrews 12:1-3. When we know where we end, we know how to train and prepare for such a race.

Lesson 2 - Today

Knowing what it says in Habakkuk, we know that “earth” is not right now. Right know there is a lot of darkness in the world. We can see hurt, sin, and shame. We can see people being abused, and not loved the way that God desires his children to be loved. There is devastation in this world, however we know that it will end. “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord” Amen! What a day that will be!! So we must live today! Even in the midst of darkness, God calls us, his children, to be the light. Ephesians 5:8-11, 15-16 “For you were once darkness, but now you are the light in the Lord.

Live as children of the light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. … Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” The bible also warns us that time is short 1 Peter 4:7 “The end of all things is near, therefor be clear minded and self-controlled so that you may pray”.

Reflection Questions

Lesson 3 – What now?

Are you living today with the goal of eternity in mind? Does that goal line, the finish line of heaven shape your thoughts and actions every day?

Are you active in your waiting for the return of Jesus or are you happy with the temporary pleasures of this world?

Are you living as a Child of the light, with your thoughts, and actions pleasing to the Lord?

Are you being wise and praying as He asks you to?
